Auto-Substitutions

McKesson provides an auto-substitution opt-in program on PharmaClik. This program will automatically substitute an ordered item if it is not a primary drug or if it is currently unavailable for order. These substitutions are referred to as Auto-Substitutions. In these situations, McKesson will send a primary or secondary generic interchangeable. This avoids ‘manufacturer cannot supply’ (MCS) situations.

Auto-Substitutions occur when an ordered item is not a primary drug, or is currently unavailable for order. In these situations, McKesson will send a primary or secondary generic interchangeable. This avoids 'manufacturer cannot supply' (MCS) situations.

There are four types of substitution:

  1. Different pack size is sent than ordered, same DIN.

  2. Primary generic is sent when secondary generic is ordered.

  3. Secondary generic is sent when primary generic is ordered but unavailable.

  4. Primary or secondary generic is sent when non-formulary generic is ordered.
